Module summary
This module follows DESN5154. Students will continue to apply the knowledge, skills and creativity that they acquired during Semesters 1 and 2. Students will finish their specialist design project by completing the two last stages of the design process: 4) prototyping; 5) evaluation. The project will be developed at a professional level and applied in a real-life context (with suitable users) for evaluation.Students are also required to produce a paper that includes: Abstract; Background (including literature review and objectives); Method (including examples of test material); Results; Discussion (including interpretation of results and implications); References, etc. Objectives
This module gives students the opportunity to:- Develop and complete a design project at a professional level and for immediate application to real-life contexts.
- Emphasise the importance of evaluating design outputs and assessing them in real situations with real and suitable users, in order to achieve the most effective user-centred design solutions.
- Educate students to become literate designers and well-rounded researchers.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will have provided evidence of being able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to complete a higher-level design project incorporating appropriate technologies.
2. Show creative skills in the realisation of a design project, and accurately report the planning, execution and evaluation of the project.
3. Select and apply appropriate conceptual, practical and research tools and methods to support the project evaluation in real-life contexts with suitable users.
4. Show that the design solution was derived from logical analysis as well as creative thinking, and present it in a visually stimulating manner.
