Private study
Developing the skills to study independently is central to this module, as such students are required to spend 1.5 hours on independent reading for every 1 hour of lectures (24 hours reading in total). Students are also required to spend 50 hours on individual preparation for their first formative and summative written assignments, as these require independent research on dental diseases and treatments. For the progressional workshops (ethics and consent and confidentiality), students are expected to spend a total of 7 hours completing recommended readings to prepare for engagement in group discussions. Students are expected to spend three hours engaging with Leeds for Life and preparing for the associated personal tutor meetings, which are also progressional. Students are required to spend 40 hours on non-timetabled, independent group work to support the timetabled group activities. Group work is important in the programme as a whole and this module embeds group work into all aspects of the module, not just the group presentation.
