Module summary
The central focus of the course will be a major project involving a relatively complex clinical case or situation, during which students will be expected to explore in depth the literature and thinking surrounding the topic and to make proposals for treatment options and for evaluation of clinical outcomes. In line with the Dental School's research aspirations and the University's research-led teaching agenda, students will make a selection from a list of undergraduate project topics provided by all teaching and research staff from their own field of research interest so as to have direct relevance to the research priorities of staff in the Institute. Projects will be literature-based and topics will require scientific and clinical skills in order to reach a reasoned conclusion. The focus will be on evidence-based practice and meta-analysis of published research. Students will work in small groups or pairs and a formal group presentation of the project results will be required as well as a portfolio of work to evidence individual contributions to the group work. The project will be supported by clinical supervisors attached to each small group and by teaching on Advanced Literature Searching, Clinical Statistics and Critical Appraisal and Research Ethics. Objectives
