Module summary
Clinical experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, procedural skills and prognostication will continue to be guided under the guidance of Consultants, Specialists and senior dental surgeons. There will be further work on cases in your own practice, if on the flexible pathway. Students will continue to build their own portfolio of completed cases. Feedback will be sought by students in relation to the perception of the approach to case management. Guidance will be given about the further development of a personalised, reflective log.Objectives
The aims of this module are:• To provide further clinical cases for management by the student, under the close supervision of Consultants, Specialists and senior dental surgeons
• To continue to provide support in the management of cases chosen for care by the student in their own practice setting, if on the flexible pathway
• To monitor the continued development of required case documentation / feedback and the expansion of the reflective log
Learning outcomes
On completion of this extended clinical module, the student will be able to:
1. Manage clinical cases under the care of Consultants, Specialists and senior dental surgeons in the clinics of the Leeds Dental Institute and in their own practice, if on the flexible pathway
2. Demonstrate clinical competence at the level of an advanced general dental surgeon
3. Document clinical prowess through the compilation of a clinical portfolio
4. Reflect critically on their clinical practice and continue to gather feedback
5. Evaluate their learning through enhanced engagement with the personalised, reflective log
Skills outcomes
This is a clinical module so all skills acquired will be appropriate to the practice of an advanced general dental practitioner
Syllabus
• Management of clinical cases in the Leeds Dental Institute and in the student’s own practice, if on the flexible pathway, with continued focus on standards and professionalism
• Aspects of clinical oral surgery, oral medicine, endodontics, traumatology, paediatric dentistry, periodontics, occlusion, fixed and removable partial prosthodontics, all appropriate to the advanced general dental practitioner
• Further development of a reflective log, appropriate documentation of cases with photography and feedback

Private study
Private study will be spent in the formulation of the clinical portfolio of cases, a reflective log and processes to support the gathering of feedback.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Formative feedback will be provided at every clinical encounter on a 1:1 basis, in real time and as cases are discussed/managed.Feedback will be provided on the draft portfolio.
