Objectives

The aim of this module is to develop competency in computer programming, using both Matlab and c.

Learning outcomes
On completing this module, students will:
- understand and be able to apply basic principles of program design
- be able to use flowcharts and pseudocode as program design tools
- be competent in the use of the Matlab interface and tools
- be able to write Matlab scripts to accomplish specific numerical tasks
- be familiar with the main syntax of the c language
- be able to write c programs to accomplish specific engineering tasks


Syllabus

Matlab: introduction to Matlab; matlab commands & built-in functions.
Introduction to programming – basic program structures, generic program constructs and logic; flowcharts and pseudocode. Programming in Matlab.
Introduction to C: c-variable types, program constructs, input-output instructions, arrays, functions. Program design, debugging and testing.

Private study

Private study includes preparation and work on Matlab and c-programming exercises. This work involves both private study and independent learning.
