Module summary

This module considers the ways in which individual, team and organizational factors effect employee behaviour at work; and it demonstrates how appreciating such factors can help people to design effective organizations. The module combines theory, research evidence and practitioner expertise to provide a rich account of these factors and outcomes. Specific factors/topics covered on the module include motivation, decision making, well-being, teamwork, leadership and work design. On completion of the module, students should possess a critical understanding of human behaviour in contemporary organizations, as well as a critical understanding of the conduct of research within the field of organizational psychology. The module comprises 11 teaching sessions, each of which will include a lecture and seminar/workshop. The lectures will typically include analysis of key theories, studies and debate, whereas the workshops will provide an opportunity for consolidation of understanding through, for instance, group work and presentations. Feedback will be continuously provided during the workshops, but students will also have the opportunity to write and receive feedback on a mock essay. The module is assessed by a two-hour written examination (100% of assessment).
