Objectives
This module aims to equip students with theories, tools and techniques for managing international purchasing, global sourcing, supplier relationship management and strategic supply management. This module will provide students with a broad overview of the nature of, as well as skills and knowledge required to design, develop, management and improve purchasing (procurement) and supply management.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of the nature and strategic significance of purchasing and supply management for various types of organizations
2. Demonstrate understanding of and develop the strategic roles of purchasing and supply management in various types of organizations
3. Demonstrate critical evaluation of purchasing and supply management practices using relevant theories, tools and techniques.
4. Assess the broader roles of purchasing and supply management in addressing global challenges in sustainable development, ethics, and cultural diversity.

Nature and strategic importance of purchasing and supply management
International purchasing process, policy, procedures
Supply management strategy development
Global and strategic sourcing
Organizing purchasing and supply management
Supply costing, supplier selection and evaluation
Managing supplier performance, quality, relationship and development
Negotiation and conflict management

Private study
Students are expected to spend their private time to undertake activities such as preparation for lectures and workshops, and work on the coursework. This will include activities such as completing assigned reading including text book, case studies, and other materials provided via the online learning environment.The time allocation is roughly:
- 30 hours: 3 hours of study and revision per lecture
- 30 hours: 3 hours of study and preparation per workshop
- 60 hours: preparation and writing up for the coursework
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Formative assessment will be available through quizzes, feedback on individual tasks and group work, and presentations in class sessions.Monitoring will take place through classes in terms of attendance, contribution to discussion within seminars and quality of material prepared for use in group exercises and other class work.
