Objectives

The key objectives are that on completing the module students will:

1. Understand the core grammatical functions in Spanish and analyse syntactically complex sentences;

2. Understand the main points of accessible written journalistic, academic and literary texts in Spanish;

3. Understand the main points of clear spoken Spanish on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, university, leisure, etc;

4. Produce different types of “clear and detailed” texts in Spanish in a variety of contexts, including adverts, letters, blog entries and short narrative pieces, in a clear and purposeful manner with a level of accuracy that allows successful communication with native speakers;

5. Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for plans and opinions in Spanish, including their views on current affairs, cultural production and their own learning experience;

6. Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes communication with sympathetic native speakers quite possible without significant strain for either party;

Learning outcomes
Students will gain knowledge of Spanish Grammar at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and will acquire a level of discursive, lexical and functional competence which will allow them to communicate in professional situations both in writing and orally.
