The module will develop an understanding of the digital patterning processes, and through this understanding the opportunities, challenges and strategies to succesfully integrate digital technologies and capitalise on new aesthetics beyond the established textiles norms will be gained.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will have provided evidence of being able to:
- understand the processes of digital patterning (digital printing and laser patterning)
- fully articulate the relationship between digital and analogue processes
- discuss in detail the processing steps in creating a digitally patterned textile product and the limitations associated therewith
- appreciate the current role of digital patterning in the industry and its potential future course

Private study

The VLE will be populated with additional material.
Substantial further reading to develop an awareness of the concepts, principles and other issues dealt with in lectures is required.
Each lecture is regarded as a sign post for further reading and enquiry, requiring an average of 6 hours of independent study per lecture.
Practial software skills will also need to be developed beyond the contact period.
Significant time investment is required for undertaking the EBL task. Access to laboratories and facilities for undertaking practical tasks in the context of the EBL is arranged via drop-in sessions. Engagement via the discussion board will necessitate circa 1.5h per week for the duration of the EBL task.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Student progress will be monitored through attendance at lectures, practical classes, and engagement with the discussion surrounding the EBL task, both online (VLE platform) and in tutorials.
