Module summary

Students must find their own work based project and work-based supervisor, but can use a wide range of external contacts available via staff. Students must arrange the desired outcomes and the timetabling of their project; for example; one day per week or a two week block, for example? Projects can be industrial, commercial, academic, public and voluntary sector, or grassroots community in nature. Students will be expected to keep the module convenor informed of plans, and they must keep a log of all activities and dialogue. The log is submitted for assessment with a reflective commentary and conclusions included. After the project, students prepare a poster on their project and present this at a conference-style meeting.

Objectives

To permit students access to a range of work-based projects in industrial, commercial, academic, public, voluntary and community environments, for example.
To nurture professional and practitioner experience in students’ career aspirations.
To develop students’ skills in seeking work experience and employment.
To develop students’ professional dialogue and correspondence skills.
To foster work-based partnerships.
To develop collegiality amongst students, staff and work-based supervisors.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will have:
Practical experience of engaging with a work-based supervisor to scope/define a project.
Practical experience of undertaking a work-based project to a professional or similar relevant standard.
Practical experience of minute taking, note taking, and activity logging, and of reflecting on progress.
Practical experience of reporting this project in a conference-style poster session.
