Module summary
This module considers the ways in which individual, team and organizational factors effect employee behaviour at work; and it demonstrates how appreciating such factors can help people to design effective organizations. The module combines theory, research evidence and practitioner expertise to provide a rich account of these factors and outcomes. Specific factors/topics covered on the module include motivation, decision making, well-being, teamwork, leadership and work design. On completion of the module, students should possess a critical understanding of human behaviour in contemporary organizations, as well as a critical understanding of the conduct of research within the field of organizational psychology. The module comprises 11 teaching sessions, each of which will include a lecture and seminar/workshop. The lectures will typically include analysis of key theories, studies and debate, whereas the workshops will provide an opportunity for consolidation of understanding through, for instance, group work and presentations. Feedback will be continuously provided during the workshops, but students will also have the opportunity to write and receive feedback on a mock essay. The module is assessed by a two-hour written examination (100% of assessment).Objectives
The aim of this module is to enable students to develop an evidenced-based understanding of individual, group and organisational-level issues relating to the psychology of human effectiveness/performance in contemporary organisations.Learning outcomes

Skills outcomes
The module will develop a range of skills, including oral communication and analytical skills, by group-based problem-solving tasks, analysis of case studies, and a multi-perspective approach to understanding events and effects.
Syllabus
The module covers core topics within the discipline of organisational psychology, including individual differences, work organisation, stress and well-being, and organisational commitment.

Private study
Reading and preparation for lectures, seminars and the examination (to include a mix of independent online learning and private study): 3 hours reading per lecture; 1 hour reading/practical preparation per seminar; 73 hours for examination revision. Total private study: 117 hours.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
- Students will be offered formative feedback on group activities and exercises undertaken in seminars.- Students will also be encouraged to write a practise essay in preparation for the examination, on which feedback will be provided.
- Summative feedback will take the form of a final examination grade
