Module summary
This module will encourage you to engage with contemporary issues and debates in enterprise. Alternate full-day workshops and seminars will bring in invited external, internationally recognised academic speakers to debate some of the most current and pressing challenges in enterprise.Objectives
This module aims to give students the opportunity to explore current contemporary issues in enterprise and entrepreneurship.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to critically evaluate:
- theories and concepts of enterprise and entrepreneurship and contextualise current issues in enterprise and entrepreneurship
- the changing nature of enterprise and entrepreneurship
- the scope of enterprise and entrepreneurship activity on a global scale

Syllabus
Indicative content:
This module brings in, invited guest speakers who are internationally recognised for their academic excellence. They will introduce the topics, outlining theoretical and empirical approaches used within the field, highlighting current debates and approaches used to explore these themes; encouraging and supporting you to critically engage with recent publications in relevant fields.
You will play an integral role in the workshop debate and discussion, providing key questions and gaining understanding of how theory may translate into both policy and practice.
Topics/themes that the module will explore:
- Gender and Entrepreneurship
- Stimulating enterprise in low-income communities
- Small business growth
- Born Global businesses
Within each topic/theme we will cover issues such as:
- The historical development of research
- Current theoretical, practice and policy debates
- Methodological approaches

Private study
The module has a core text and a recommended supplementary edited book of readings. There will also be a reading list of contemporary journal articles.Private study details: 5 x 10 hours reading for workshop preparation and 70 hours preparation for examination.
