Module summary

This module should enable students to understand and analyse key stylistic features of Arabic and English, with a focus on the following: 1. The grammatical level;2. The sentential level; 3. Thematic structure; 4. The discourse and intertextual levels; 5. Metaphor and idiom.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students will have an understanding of some more advanced aspects of stylistics in Arabic and English, and of key stylistic differences between the two languages.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able analyse the key stylistic features of Arabic and English texts listed in Outline Syllabus (immediately below), and show coherently how texts in the two languages typically differ. Students should also be able to express themselves clearly and to present their work in line with normal academic standards.
