Objectives
This module will introduce students to research activity carried out at genomic scales, in a range of animal and plant species, and the output of those studies.Learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students:
- should be aware of the scale and scope of genome projects;
- appreciate the technical and scientific problems involved in genome sequencing;
- understand how these have been tackled and solved in different projects;
- know where to look for the immense volumes of data generated by genome projects and how to access this data;
- understand how to use, interpret and apply genome data;
- appreciate newly emerging insights into evolution and evolutionary relationships between species.
