Objectives
The aim of the module is to develop and reinforce a range of scientific skills expected in high-quality Biomedical Science graduates.Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students should be able to:
- engage confidently with the published scientific literature
- extract and summarise the key points of a scientific paper
- critically analyse the quality of published research
- be aware of issues associated with conducting scientific research
- be aware of modern laboratory techniques associated with their subject, the nature of the data they produce, and how they are presented
- work with numerical scientific data and interpret their biological meaning.

- Seminar: Molecules, cells, signalling, and how they are measured
- Tutorial: Application of research techniques
- Seminar: Interpreting and summarising scientific papers
- Tutorial: Summarising and critical review of research
- Seminar: Ligand-receptor interactions
- Tutorial: Data interpretation I
- Seminar: Data analysis and interpretation
- Tutorial: Data interpretation II
- Seminar: Research governance, planning, and justification
- Tutorial: Research proposal review and summaries.
