Objectives

The main aims of the module are to introduce the commercial concepts and processes behind the funding of projects, particularly major transport infrastructure projects, from both public and private sectors, and to develop an awareness of the sources of funding, the funding options and the use of Financial Instruments.

Learning outcomes
(UK-SPEC) Economical, legal, social, ethical and environmental context
i) an appreciation of the sources and types of funding relating to transport infrastructure from both private and public sectors
ii) awareness of the conflict between commercial investment and public accountability
iii) understanding of the funding issues relating in particular to transport infrastructure, in the UK and internationally
(UK-SPEC) Engineering Practice
iv) an awareness of the range of Public-Private-Partnership Concession Projects and the importance of the Concession Agreement
v) an understanding of the use of Financial Instruments
vi) an introduction to the nature of re-negotiation, re-financing and re-structuring during a long term concession
