Objectives

This module is designed to supplement DESN 3342: Visual Research and Analysis. The purpose of the module is to teach students the research skills necessary for them to contextualise the practical work conducted in DESN 3342.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- critically engage with the aesthetic development of their practical work;
- demonstrate knowledge of historic and contemporary movements in art and design pertinent to their practical work;
- produce a critical illustrated written account of the progression of their practical work.

Syllabus

This lecture based module will give students the research skills needed to contextualise their practical work in relation to that of other artists and designers. It will encourage them to critically engage with their own practical work in a more confident manner.

Students will be encouraged to conduct research from a wide range of sources, including theories of art and design and investigations into contemporary and historic textile and fashion product trends.

Two seminar groups will allow students the opportunity to discuss and present their ideas. The module is assessed through the submission of an illustrated critical journal detailing the progression of practical work conducted in DESN 3342.
