Objectives

The objective of this module is to initiate and carry out an extended body of work which will result in a range of innovative finished design solutions. The module draws on visual research undertaken in the first semester and allows students to develop their ideas through to material outcomes.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- exploit visual research and development within the context of their specialism;
- understand and demonstrate coherent and detailed knowledge of the practical competencies and techniques relative to their discipline;
- apply their knowledge and understanding of textile and/ or garment construction in the initiation and development of a collection of products for a specific end use;
- plan, present and exhibit final collections in a professional manner.


Syllabus

Knit pathway: Students develop a sophisticated fabric collection ulitising a range of techniques and technologies appropriate to specified market. Knitted fabric design and innovation is supported by visual research and investigation into suitable materials.

Mixed-media pathway: development of sophisticated fabric collection ulitising a range of techniques and technologies appropriate to specified market through mixed media practice.

Textiles for fashion pathway: development of sophisticated garment collection ulitising a range of techniques and technologies appropriate to specified market level.

Module Syllabus semester one outcomes inform an original collection of fabric/garments for specified market. Design developments and technical specifications are recorded in a professional manner.

Student progress will be monitored via:
- Attendance at practical and seminar sessions;
- Regular feedback from staff in practical sessions and from staff and peers in 'group critique' seminars.
