Objectives

1. To demonstrate an understanding of theories underpinning the development of learning resources
2. To apply appropriate methodologies to support the development of a new learning resource
3. To critically analyse and evaluate a new learning resource in relation to a work-based setting
4. To reflect on and synthesise learning through a rationale for the design and development of a new learning resource

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students will have a knowledge of the following within a work-based setting:
- Research methodology in practice
- The process of critical analysis and evaluation of research data
- The application of research findings
- A learning need of a specified group and how this can be fulfilled through a specific resource
- To apply accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation

Skills outcomes
The application of research skills and creativity to a practice-based need


Syllabus

- Introduction to a range of learning resources in a variety of media, including student projects
- Critical analysis of theories underpinning the development and use of specific learning resources
- Identification of methodologies to support the development of student learning resources
- Critical analysis and evaluation of data from student research
- Presentation and justification of learning resources

Private study

Students will be expected to apply prior learning from the Understanding Education Research module and to explore issues relating to their project through reading and reflection.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will receive formative feedback relating to their application of key concepts in seminar discussions, both in relation to their commentary on peer projects, and in response to the presentation of their own work. Tutorials will be available in addition to the seminar sessions to support the preparation of summative assessment.
