Module summary

This module will introduce you to the concepts of corporate entrepreneurship and innovation in existing organisations. Your learning will be supported through interactive workshops, case studies and reflective exercises though which you will have the opportunity to consider the potential for enterprising behaviour in existing organisations.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to:

- explore the potentials of entrepreneurial activity within small and large organisations.
- understand the relevance of culture and climate in entrepreneurial organisations.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the module students will be able to:
- Demonstrate in-depth critical knowledge of enterprise in existing organisations and corporate entrepreneurship theories and concepts using techniques relevant to the discipline.
- Critically appraise the role and management of entrepreneurial potential.
- Critically appraise the development of an entrepreneurial culture and climate within small and large organisations.
- Develop professional relationships with potential industry collaborators and/or employers.

Skills outcomes
Development of understanding of personal and entrepreneurial skills in existing organisations, commercial (business/customer) awareness, self-management, problem solving, team working and communications skills.

Private study

Students will be expected to read the academic literature, newspapers and online media relating to corporate entrepreneurship and enterprise in existing organisations. (10 x 5 hours reading in preparation for workshops [50])
Students will undertake a cultural audit of an organisation in relation to its entrepreneurial climate and support policies and mechanisms (16 hours). Students will critically analyse these research findings and formulate a critical, conceptual, entrepreneurship strategy for the organisation including implementation plans (36 hours).
Throughout the semester, students will be required to keep an online (MINERVA) reflective blog. (10 x 1.5 hours [15])

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will also receive formative feedback during workshop sessions and through drop-in sessions where applicable.
