Module summary

This module enables students to reflect on and develop their learning gained from two intensive periods of contact delivered at the University of Leeds. It will focus attention on how they can use their learning to enhance a particular area/areas of their professional practice, supporting them to do further reading, discuss this with their peers in seminars and with academic staff in tutorials and then produce a 6,000 word essay. The module will involve introduction to qualitative research methodologies appropriate to the line of enquiry. This will include consideration of research ethics. The module begins with the production of a negotiated Learning Contract, allowing the student to explore their own professional needs in light of their learning on the Summer Study Programme and consolidated during a further weekend workshop in the autumn term. This element is formatively assessed.

On completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Articulate personal learning needs in relation to a defined area of professional practice.
2. Organise a programme of self-directed learning.
3. Critically analyse a relevant body of literature.
4. Produce an analytical and reflective account of knowledge gained through independent study.

Syllabus

To participate in this module, students are expected to have engaged with relevant professional or managerial learning through a series of structured learning events. These will be usually delivered via a Summer Programme plus additional weekend workshop, held at the University of Leeds.

The intention of the module is to enable students to receive formal recognition of the learning gained when attending structured learning events. The structured learning events must have a coherency from the student's perspective.

The group tutorial will establish the processes for the student to achieve the learning outcomes.
