Objectives

Undertake eight or nine days of geological fieldwork on the island of Cyprus to investigate the dynamics of formation, cooling, alteration of mid-oceanic ridges, their subsequent emplacement as ophiolites, and their unroofing and post-emplacement history, and to evaluate the evolution of sedimentary environments from deep marine to shallow marine to continental, during the Mesozoic and Cenozoic evolution of this part of the eastern Mediterranean.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will:

1) have investigated howpure and applied geological concepts may be used in field situations.
2) developed skills of integration, field observations and synthesis of geological models, including synthesis of field and literature data.
3) Developed specific skills in the dynamics of formation, cooling, alteration of mid-oceanic ridges, their subsequent emplacement as ophiolites and their unroofing and post-emplacement history.
