Objectives
This module is ONLY available to MRes Climate & Atmospheric Science studentsOn completion of this module, students will have a general background knowledge in Climate and Atmospheric sciences and have gained basic generic research skills.
Students will have a broad understanding of current research in these subjects and will know how to use scientific literature, write scientific papers and proposals, give oral presentations, design projects and manage their time effectively.
Syllabus
- Students will attend weekly departmental seminars for the Institute for Climate and Atmospheric Science.
- Students will attend a series of tutorials on research skills.
- Students will write a proposal describing their main project (including management/time plan) and discuss it in a short presentation.
- Students will attend a residential field course which provides a dimension of fieldwork to the programme. The course typically starts 3 Fridays before the start of term, and students will need to make arrangements to be at the University for the start of this field work.
- Students will attend a selection of foundation lectures such as Atmosphere of Planet Earth (SOEE1280), Leeds graduates will need to discuss an alternative with the Programme Leader (Jim McQuaid).
