Objectives
The aim of the course is to teach students the principles of nutrition including a description of the major nutrients and their digestion in various classes of animals including humans and other mammals, both ruminant and non-ruminant, wild and domestic. Birds are also included.Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students should have a thorough understanding of the digestive physiology of mammals and birds.
There are opportunities to develop transferable professional skills.

Syllabus
The topics covered are as follows:
- The digestive tracts of ruminants and simple-stomached animals and birds.
- Digestion and absorption of protein, fat and carbohydrates in simple-stomached and ruminant animals.
- The macro-elements, the essential trace elements and the toxic trace elements.
- The fat and water soluble vitamins.
