Objectives
- This module aims to develop and expand upon skills acquired in Level 2.- Students are encouraged to conduct individual and independent lines of research and enquiry in order that they may formulate appropriate and diverse design solutions.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- research independent areas of interest in relation to the development of an original and contemporary fashion garment collection;
- demonstrate individual & creative expertise within stated commercial parameters;
- show evidence of flexibility, resourcefulness, self-discipline and motivation;
- plan, manage and execute individual schedules.
Syllabus
This module is principally concerned with the design of a contemporary garment collection, which reflects a total individual concept, underpinned by original research. This module is not project-based; therefore after negotiation and agreement with tutors, students will provide a 1,000-word study proposal that outlines their intentions, accompanied by a comprehensive time management plan.
The ability to sustain a theme by working within clearly defined global commercial parameters, efficiently managing and organising personal work schedules are all essential elements of this module. Where possible students are encouraged to endorse industrial relevance by researching and obtaining appropriate fabric/yarn/make sponsorship.
An important aspect is the ability to examine the subject area within a wider context and show an informed understanding of relevant sociological, cultural, technical and commercial aspects.
Computer aided technology and efficient time management skills will also support this module.
This module would reward future thought and development in innovative practice, whether this be ecological, technological or ethical based.
