Objectives
This module aims to develop and expand upon practical skills acquired in Level 2 and will focus on structured pattern making or knitted fabric, woven or knitted garment construction, manufacturing methodology and terminology all within industrial standards.Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- translate effectively from 2-dimensional design work to 3-dimensional form, using intellectual, creative and technical skills;
- demonstrate individual, creative and technical expertise within stated commercial parameters;
- show evidence of flexibility, resourcefulness, self-discipline and motivation;
- plan, manage and execute individual schedules.
Syllabus
This module is principally concerned with the development of a contemporary garment collection, which reflects a total individual concept, underpinned by original research. This module is not project based; therefore after negotiation and agreement with tutors, students will provide a comprehensive time management plan, which supports their original proposal in DESN3559.
The ability to sustain a theme by working within clearly defined global commercial parameters, efficiently managing and organising personal work schedules are all essential element of this module.
Where possible students are encouraged to endorse industrial relevance by researching and obtaining appropriate fabric/yarn/make sponsorship.
An important aspect is the ability to examine the subject area within a wider context and show an informed understanding of relevant sociological, cultural, technical and commercial aspects and which would reward future thought and development in innovative practice in the fashion area, whether this be ecological, technological or ethical.
Time management skills will also support this module.
