Pre-requisite qualifications
Degree or equivalent in a health related profession. Entry on the appropriate professional register, e.g. member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, Member of the Health Professions Council, Entry on the appropriate parts of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register, Member of the General Medical Council, Member of the General Dental Council. Minimum experience three years full time (or equivalent part-time) in Practice. Involved in education and training as part of their current role.This module is mutually exclusive with

Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:1. critically analyse methods of assessment used within healthcare education;
2. design and implement appropriate assessment and feedback strategies;
3. ensure effective learning experiences and opportunities to achieve learning outcomes through clinical supervision and provision of a learning environment;
4. evaluate teaching and learning in the clinical setting;
5. explain the relationship between evaluation and quality assurance frameworks.
Skills outcomes
1. demonstrate competence and skill in using a wide range of assessment strategies in the clinical setting;
2. evaluate their own achievement and that of others.
Syllabus
Supporting students in the clinical environment (mentoring, coaching). Personal development planning.
Clinical supervision.
Principles of assessment: what is assessment? Why do we assess, when do we assess and how do we assess? Assessment of clinical competence.
The process and challenges of giving feedback.
Assessment methods (objective structured clinical examinations, multiple-choice questions, peer assessment, observation etc.).
Appraisal.
Evaluating teaching and learning.
Quality assurance in education and clinical teaching.
