Module summary
The syllabus for the module will be arranged on an individual basis, in consultation with the host institution. It will normally comprise a combination of taught courses in the student’s Major subject and studies in a range of other fields, in keeping with the disciplinary diversity of the Liberal Arts programme. Language training will be undertaken if required.Where teaching is in English, students will be expected to study the same number of courses as the students at the host institution.A Learning Agreement will be completed with the student and the Study Abroad coordinator for Liberal Arts prior to departure outlining the level of study and the number of credits required.Objectives
On completion of this module, students will have broadened their knowledge of relevant subject areas and gained experience of living and studying within a different social and cultural environment.The actual experience of the year abroad will vary widely from one student to another, depending on the University attended and the individual host city and country.
Learning outcomes
Further understanding of the relevant Major subject, along with other disciplines, in keeping with the disciplinary diversity of the Liberal Arts programme.
Skills outcomes
- Qualities and transferable skills necessary for working in another academic system and living in another country.
- Enhanced practical language skills, both written and oral, in some cases in a language other than English, as required by demands of study in another country.

The exchange year will be monitored by a tutor / supervisor within the host university to ensure that it is a rewarding and worthwhile experience for the student.The Study Abroad Coordinator for Liberal Arts monitors progress overall through regular email contact.
