Objectives

Building on Becoming a reflective practitioner 1a, this module will develop and support the student's counselling practice and reflexive awareness of intersubjectivity in both counselling and personal relationships.

Learning outcomes
1. Demonstrate (through recorded material) and critically reflect on the effective use of skills in counselling practice with clients.
2. Make effective use of clinical supervision.
3. Critically reflect on aspects of counselling practice, the BACP Ethical Framework and other relevant codes of ethics.
4. Reflexively consider common presenting issues arising in counselling practice.
5. Critically reflect on intersubjective processes in personal development.

Skills outcomes
Students will be expected to develop psychotherapeutic counselling skills and a level of reflexivity to establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with clients, and to maintain logs of their counselling practice and supervision.

- Skills development for intersubjective practice
- Aspects of practice: assessment & contracting, notes & data protection, brief & longer term therapy, managing endings, evaluation of counselling
- Presenting issues: loss, depression and anxiety
- Group learning for personal awareness development
- Personal therapy (non-assessed)
- Clinical practice
- Individual external supervision
