Objectives

This module provides students with the opportunity to consolidate and apply their learning through the design, implementation and presentation of a substantive interdisciplinary research project. The topic will be negotiated with module tutors and will relate either to academic subject matter or professional work and study, building on the interdisciplinary knowledge and skills gained from across the programme.

Learning outcomes
At the end of this module students will demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to:
-pursue in depth a topic, issue or research question from a range of perspectives that includes theoretical frameworks drawn from relevant disciplines
-report, synthesize and critically evaluate findings in reference to appropriate theoretical frameworks in a written dissertation;
-understand and critically evaluate the limitations and transferability of research findings to other settings and situations
-examine and understand relevant ethical issues and global perspectives

-Analysis of data.


Syllabus

The subject of the dissertation will relevant to themes already studied in the programme and will be negotiated between the student and supervisor.

Private study

Time for private study is expected to break down as follows:

Preparatory reading, research and developing a research plan 20 hours
Preparation for seminars 18 hours
Accessing research location, generating and analysing data, reading and writing up dissertation 297 hours

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

There will be ongoing monitoring of student progress throughout the module via supervision meetings, student engagement in group seminars and via the VLE.
