Objectives
The module aims to provide students with an introductory level understanding of Management. It draws on contemporary management theory to enable them to gain an understanding of the development of the Management discipline, the structure of business organisations, the environment in which they operate the different management functions within organisations and the traits of successful managers.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of management as an academic discipline
- Recognise basic business organisations and their objectives; business decision-making and the business operating environment
-Identify the different functional areas of management (Planning, Staffing, Organising, Controlling and Leading)
Skills outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

Syllabus
Indicative content
Seminars will be split between theory based sessions and practical examples, presentations and teamwork.
All students will be assigned in Week 1 into groups, which will work collaboratively to make decisions for a company on a specified industry. In Week 10 each group will have to present an overview of their progress as a company.
For the assessment, each student will have to undertake two separate assignments: an individual project with a specified outcome, and a group report.
