Pre-requisite qualificationsAdmission to a Centre for Translation Studies MA programme with specialisation in German. Centre for Translation Studies MA students who did not take the Admissions Translation Test for German when they applied for the programme must pass this test before they may take this module. Students enrolled on other School of Modern Languages and Cultures postgraduate programmes may, after gaining approval in principle from the Module Manager, be allowed to take this module if they pass the Admissions Translation Test for German.

ObjectivesOn completion of this module, students should be able to translate confidently from German into English to a professional level in two key text-types.

Translate confidently from German into English to a professional level in two key text types.
This module provides both native and non-native speakers of English with a practical course in high-level written translation from German to English.
As preparation for translation work in a professional context it presents participants with practice in two different text-types taken from the following: journalistic and general/administrative OR technical/scientific and literary.
The module is taught through practical sessions, so there is ample opportunity for discussion of the principles which underlie effective translation strategies.
