Objectives
On completion of this module, students will be able to:- Show a working understanding of a range of research approaches;
- describe and critically discuss research findings relating to child development;
- discuss the implication of these findings for clinical work.
Syllabus
Students will study a range of journal articles and book chapters which together will cover the range of research approaches (observation, experimentation and standardised assessment) in relation to major aspects of the development of the young child. Topics will include attachment, child abuse, maternal depression, peer relationships and the child's theory of mind.
Private study
3 - 4 hours reading and preparation for presentation for each seminarOpportunities for Formative Feedback
Discussion of progress in regular face to face tutorials.Monitoring of students progress as indicated in seminars and offering feedback about specific areas of strength and need for development by seminar leader in collaboration with personal tutor.
Support and advice regarding assignments and prior to submission and if needed after assessment if there is a problem.
