Objectives

This module aims to give students experience of planning, researching and carrying out an empirical study, analyzing and interpreting its results and writing a report.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this project is to give you experience of planning, researching and carrying out an empirical study, analyzing and interpreting its results and writing a report. On completion of this module you should be able to:

- Perform a literature search of relevant psychological and allied sources
- Write a concise, coherent review of the literature in a particular area of research
- Design and carry out an empirical study to collect data (which may be quantitative or qualitative)
- Be aware of the design and practical limitations of studies in Psychology and some strategies to address these
- Analyse and interpret appropriately (via statistical or other methods) the data collected
- Write a report of the study performed using a style and format similar to journal articles of the same type of data/research area
- Demonstrate an awareness of the limitations of the study performed
