Pre-requisite qualifications
Successful completion of all pass for progression modules in Level 2 of: BSc Psychology or MPsyc, BSc Advanced Psychology BSc Psychology (and its international and industrial variants)This module is not approved as a discovery module
Objectives
This module aims to give students experience of planning, researching and carrying out an empirical study, analyzing and interpreting its results, writing a report and presenting the study to an audience.Learning outcomes
The aim of this project is to give you experience of planning, researching and carrying out an empirical study, analysing and interpreting its results, writing a report and presenting the study to an audience. On completion of this module you should be able to:
1 - Perform a literature search of relevant psychological and allied sources
2 - Write a concise, coherent review of the literature in a particular area of research
3 - Design and carry out an empirical study to collect data (which may be quantitative or qualitative)
4 - Be aware of the design and practical limitations of studies in Psychology and some strategies to address these
5 - Analyse and interpret appropriately (via statistical or other methods) the data collected
6 – Present a poster of the study to an audience
7 - Write a report of the study performed using a style and format similar to journal articles of the same type of data/research area

Students will have approximately 284 private study hours.We envisage the time will be spent thus:
- Researching, conducting and writing up the empirical research project: 279 hours
- Preparation for poster presentation: 5 hours.

- Regular contact with supervisor.- Student's poster presentations will receive formative feedback from supervisors.
