Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to provide an introduction to the distribution and origin of economic earth resources.

Syllabus

- Introduction to earth resources, their location, geological context, and use
- Economics of mineral deposits
- Fluid flow in porous media; origin and modification of porosity and permeability in sedimentary rocks
- Factors controlling the development and location of economically productive hydrocarbon systems
- Methods of ore and hydrocarbon exploration
- Processes that produce economic sedimentary, hydrothermal and magmatic ore deposits
- Processes of elemental enrichment and fluid flow in ore deposits.
