Objectives

On completion of this module, student should be able to…
- To present the overall objectives of a water supply system;
- To introduce the key components of a water supply system;
- To demonstrate how to design a water supply system;
- To present approaches to the development and productive use of groundwater sources;
- To present approaches to the design of water supply systems including point sources and resources;
- To demonstrate the design of simple water supply systems.

Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students will understand:

1. What the key issues are in a water supply system;
2. What the components of a supply system are;
3. How to design and maintain a water supply system, based on both groundwater and surface water sources.


Syllabus

- Design of water systems;
- Groundwater assessments and principles of hydrogeology;
- Surface water development;
- Selection and design of appropriate lifting equipment;
- Point source development;
- Design of basic water treatment.

Private study

The students will need to conduct independent reading both of given materials and materials that they will need to find themselves. This will support their learning and be an integral part of the project.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Student progress will be monitored during the module through the project and interaction in lectures. The project work will be assessed and feedback will be given both individually and collectively.
