Module summary
This summer placement is part of the Apprenticeship Programme with PricewaterhouseCoopers.. Students will gain exposure to a range of different technology teams within PwC, differing from those teams they worked with in Placement 1.Objectives
This programme aims to- inspire and enthuse the apprentices by showing what technology can make possible, whilst instilling a passion for their subject;
- provide the student opportunities in applying knowledge gained from the taught modules with selected technical teams at PwC;
- raise the student’s commercial awareness and business acumen; and
- identify the suitable pathway for the student to pursue in Years 3 and 4.
Learning outcomes
Be able to
- demonstrate an understanding of business organisation at the workplace;
- apply technical knowledge within a technical team environment;
- position technology solutions within the business context;
- understand how to apply their work-based learning to other areas of personal development, including academic performance;
- communicate technical ideas and solutions effectively in writing and verbally for a business environment.
Syllabus
Students will have a minimum of two months to a maximum of three months work placement between level 2 and the year 3 placement, where they will work with at least another two specialised technical teams. The students will produce clear, yet concise, written report/s in an appropriate format to summarise and reflect their learning. The placement will be arranged by PwC - on the job training elements will provide students with a fully supported and mentored environment that will enable them to develop all skills, both technical and soft.

The Placement Reports should be submitted to both the School of Computing and to the PwC. The final assessment of the Placement Reports will be returned by the School, taking into consideration the input from the Supervisors at PwC. In the event of a report not meeting pass standard, students will be permitted the opportunity to resubmit the report, or elements within the report, as appropriate, within one month of receiving their result.
