Module summary

This module will introduce students the demands of pre-production and post-production in contemporary moving image. Students will appreciate the key relationship between these two production stages. Through the creation of a four-minute video, students will gain an understanding of how to plan a cogent narrative; how to put such a plan into practice through practical filming techniques; and how to structurally organise digital media assets into a coherent visual narrative using additional visual effects where necessary.

Objectives

The aim of the module is to provide the students with an understanding and appreciation of the fundamental concepts and principles of production, post-production in contemporary moving image. Seminars and lectures will discuss accepted conventions within moving image production and explore how these are used effectively to explore concepts, convey narratives and persuade audiences within a contemporary setting.

Building on this formal understanding of production and post-production approaches, a more experimental appreciation of research, storyboarding and creative planning will offer students the ability to develop a unique form of expression within the medium of moving image.
