Module summary

This module provides students with the opportunity to consolidate working practices developed in Levels 1 and 2, to demonstrate an analytical approach to the development of a fashion design portfolio in their chosen pathway.

Objectives

The purpose of this module is to provide students with awareness and precision to formulate independent lines of enquiry, and to create meaningful and diverse research themes that have the potential for fashion design development for global brands.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:

(i) negotiate and formulate the direction of their design portfolio;
(ii) demonstrate primary and secondary research;
(iii) analyse and develop ideas, concepts, proposals and solutions using the visual and written language, materials, processes and techniques of fashion design;
(iv) explore and formulate an individual design identity to their specific stated objectives;
(v) demonstrate organisational skills;
(vi) plan, manage and execute individual work schedules.

Syllabus

The importance of primary and secondary research, analysis, technical and creative expertise related to the chosen pathway areas and design themes, are key features of this module. Emphasis will be placed on the importance and value of developing a personal inventive and creative ability, in order to provide evidence of sequential development in relation to concept and interpretation.

Planning, practice and evaluation will help demonstrate student's ability to prepare a range of concepts for a global market. This portfolio will form a tool that will help prepare students for interview.

The creative and professional value of group critiques will play an important part of this module. This will take place through presentation of research in progress, for discussion and review by peer group and tutors.
