Module summary

This module will allow you to develop an understanding of the process of planning and then undertaking a piece of your own research. You will be introduced to the underlying philosophical positions that underpin the contrasting approaches to research and you will examine the various elements of the research process and the ethical considerations when undertaking a piece of individual research.You will engage in developing your confidence in digital skills by researching for your assignments as well as preparing for tasks before face to face sessions and through interaction with other students online.

Objectives

The aims of the module are to provide students with an opportunity to:
-Examine the key aspects of the research process within a business management context -Demonstrate critical analysis skills

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
-Critically analyse existing literature
-Identify research philosophies and critique existing research studies, applying relevant theory
-Identify the ethical considerations when undertaking primary research
-Recommend improvements to existing research


Skills outcomes
As part of this module students will develop a range of digital literacy skills. Further details are provided in the module handbook


Syllabus

The content will cover such areas as:
-The philosophy of research and research paradigms
-Formulation of research objectives, questions and hypotheses
-An understanding of potential data collection methods
-Analysis and reporting of quantitative and qualitative research data
-Conducting an appropriate literature review
-Ethical issues in business and management research
