Module summary
This module focuses on the management of digital business and the opportunities and challenges presented by the contemporary digital world. Organisations and entrepreneurs are increasingly applying new digital technologies into business models, processes and practices to exploit their benefits, but with this also come challenges and shifting managerial capabilities. In this module, we apply an interdisciplinary approach to the understanding of how digital technologies can create new businesses, transform existing work and explore strategies for overcoming challenges to thrive in this e-rapidly changing environment.Objectives
The module explores how managers and entrepreneurs utilise digital technologies to enhance the performance and innovation of their business. It will provide students with a broad overview of the evolving digital landscape, enable them to critically evaluate digitisation opportunities and challenges within different types of settings, as well as how to strategically manage these. Through this understanding, students will learn tools and techniques for managing change and development in digital business, and navigating the consequences this will have for future work.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

- Evaluate the importance of digital business for individuals, organisations and society
- Critically analyse the likely implications of digital business for different business sectors
- Critically evaluate barriers to the growth of digital business
- Apply knowledge of how to exploit digital business in a chosen organisation or business sector.

New business models and the sharing economy
Digital business innovation and co-creation
Emerging technologies such as Big Data, Internet of Things, Social Media, Cloud Computing etc. Please note that these are updated on a regular basis to reflect the most recent advancements in technology.
Social media strategy and digital marketing
Digital leadership and change management
Critical perspectives on digital business, e.g. privacy, security and ethics
