Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:1. perform simple construction and visualisation tasks using a CAID system
2. describe how different production processes, affect design decision in component and product design
3. generate component designs for several production processes to a basic level
4. use at least one example of a CAID system in a design context
5. identify creative thinking skills in the design process
6. identify basic theories of creative thinking
7. apply the skills of creativity in the exploration of problems
8. explain design through the model of the Designing Triad
10. demonstrate how human factors affect design
11. develop drawing skills as an aid to creativity

Syllabus
- Solid Modelling; Extrude, revolve, loft, sweep, fillets, shelling and other solid construction techniques
- Visualisation; Shaded image and lighting; ray tracing and texture
- 2D Drawing from 3D CAD files
- Production processes and factors which influence design decisions
- Introduction to detailing components in 5 Key production techniques
- Basic theories of creative thinking in the design process
- Explanation of design through Designing Triad (user, designer, maker)
- Analysis of innovation and its value in design
- Opportunities to develop creativity in drawing and problem solving
- Introduction of the concept of evaluation in design
