Objectives

This module focuses on developing the skills needed to complete an extended written report. This will include further development of academic study skills, research skills and academic writing skills to help prepare students for written reports and projects that they will undertake at Level 2 and 3.

Learning outcomes
- Manage their time when working on an extended written report;
- Be able to use a range of reading and research strategies relevant to researching an extended written report;
- Make and effective plan for writing an extended written report;
- Create a clear structure for an extended written report;
- Use academic language effectively in their written report;
- Understand how to cite and reference sources.

Skills outcomes
- Develop communication skills appropriate to presenting Engineering results as well as reasons for selecting particular evaluation criteria and solution methodologies;
- Ability to communicate information, understanding, arguments and analysis in written form;
- Know where to find relevant and appropriate sources and the hierarchy of this information in their subject area.
