Syllabus
Museum, Object, Practice examines the methodologies behind museum practice. Students are encouraged to consider contemporary museum practice within the context of the social history of museums. The module explore the role of the curator, the display and interpretation of objects, permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, funding and sponsorship, marketing and publicity and education and outreach programmes.
Students will be introduced to museum practice through a combination of lectures, visiting speakers, visits and most importantly, a negotiated work placement. The Department of Fine Art at Leeds has excellent relations with a number of local museums, historic houses and art galleries and these links will be used throughout this module.
