Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to:

Design and deliver an appropriate individual project based on an exploration of current lens based practice.

Apply critical thinking to developing practice and evaluate practice as a means of exploring critical and theoretical concepts.

Produce creative and critically informed practice that demonstrates the ability to use current production and editing tools.

Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate critical and methodological approaches to contextualising their particular area of practice and situate it within historical, theoretical and cultural traditions.

Produce creative practice that demonstrates an awareness of the divergences and synergies between cinema and photography in the communication of ideas and concepts..

Demonstrate the ability to present work to a high professional and academic standard for dissemination and to respond to strict deadlines.

Learning outcomes
Students will develop:

An understanding of key current debates and critical thinking in relation to contemporary practice.

The ability to plan and execute complex projects and utilise current technology.

An understanding of how contemporary practitioners and critical thinkers have conceptualised the nature of convergent practices.

The ability to critique and locate their own practice in a range of contexts.

The ability to present work in a professional manner and explore the commercial potential of their work.

Private study

Private study will consist of the reading critical texts, independent research for assessments, practical and creative work, editing and publication.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Student progress will be monitored through the project proposal, performance in the preparatory workshops, attendance monitoring, and through regular supervisory meetings that will be scheduled as part of the planning process. In addition students will be monitored regularly through the submission of work in progress.
