Syllabus

This module introduces students to the basic structural elements of the Thai language.

It focuses principally on the writing system and the rules of intonation that are identifiable therein. It focuses on good Thai pronunciation, and some basic elements of grammar and syntax. It will involve reading some simple texts, with the use of a dictionary, and will introduce students to a number of phrases that will be used in everyday small-talk situations. The students will also learn to talk about themselves.

Through using the Thai language, they will learn about basic facets of Thai culture and social interaction. Survival level oral and aural skills in the spoken Thai language will also be introduced, generally in a language laboratory context.
