Module summary

What kind of person was Paul and what did he do? Which N.T. letters did he really write and from where did he get his ideas and knowledge? These questions and others will be addressed in this module. In addition we shall explore some of the major theological themes in Pauline Christianity and some key passages of text in the letters.

Objectives

To introduce and examine the main theological themes to be found in the Pauline corpus. To enable students to develop and apply exegetical skills to selected passages of text in English translation.

Syllabus

After setting Paul and his letters in their socio-historical and literary context the syllabus consists of the study of important passages and theological themes in the English text of the letters attributed to Paul, and a critical survey of major scholarly work on Paul's theology.
