Module summary
This module introduces the key theories and strategies surrounding adult aural rehabilitation. It covers the technological, psycho-social and therapeutic aspects of rehabilitation.Objectives
The aim of this module is :1. To provide detailed knowledge of the principles of the effect of hearing impairment on communication
2. To identify adult aural rehabilitation strategies available for use in good clinical practice.
3. To provide students with an understanding of the technical knowledge of hearing aids, fitting and verification strategies required for good clinical practice.
4. To integrate Hearing aid technologies and fitting strategies with psycho-social models of rehabilitation
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Discuss the perceptual effects of hearing impairment and their effect on communication
2. Discuss the fundamental principles of adult aural audiological rehabilitation and intervention and management strategies for adults with hearing impairment.
3. Explain a range of hearing aid technologies based on underlying theory
4. Analyse findings from practical sessions.
5. Discuss the use of telehealth and smartphone applications in relation to adult audiological rehabilitation.
6. Discuss the role research governance frameworks, evidence based practice and issues surrounding data protection and intellectual property regulations in the advancement of auditory rehabilitation services
