Module summary

This module involves a short international placement of 2/3 weeks which allows the student to experience imaging practice on an international placement. It will give the student the opportunity to experience the effect of culture on imaging practice as well as furthering their own organisational and management skills.

Objectives

The aim of this module is to provide the student with the exciting opportunity to apply learning in a work-based situation on an international placement. It will allow them to investigate the organisation and delivery of imaging in a chosen area of practice within a different health care system.

It will provide an excellent opportunity to develop self management and work based learning skills in an international context. The learning and teaching methods are based on increasing student independence in learning and in professional practice.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:
1. analyse professional practice within the UK and the international placement
2. evaluate and compare a particular area of practice its use and effectiveness in the UK and international placement country.
3. investigate the effects different cultures have on professional imaging practice;
4. analyse imaging skills in an area of practice in an international placement under supervision

Skills outcomes
On successful completion of this module the student will have:
improved their self management skills
improved their imaging practice skills
widened their problem solving skills in an international context
improved their negotiating and project management skills
developed forms of communication where there is a language and/or cultural barrier and increased their ability to identify appropriate literature (health, clinical, cultural and general) through searching databases and the Internet.

Syllabus

This module will give the student the opportunity to apply learning in a work-based situation on an international placement. It will allow them to investigate the organisation and delivery of imaging in their chosen area of practice within a different health care system. The module will allow the student to analyse the literature to provide an informed decision on best practice.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Individual tutorials will enable specific support and guidance to be given on progress as well as on preparation for the summative assessment.
Completion of daily monitoring forms when the students are on the international placement.
Regular contact with international colleagues to monitor student progress and the student experience.
